The Brother MFC-9120CN, a color LED multifunction printer (MFP) suitable for home offices and small workgroups, offers good speed and paper capacity for its price. We wish its graphics and photo quality were better, but the MFC-9120CN should be a welcome addition to micro desktops, especially those that focus on text printing, but still need occasional color .

The MFC-9120CN prints, scans, faxes and copies. It also prints, scans and faxes on a network; you can fax from either the MFP's control panel or from a computer (PC fax). It has a 35-page automatic document feeder (ADF) for copying, faxing or scanning multiple pages.

Brother MFC-9120CN uses LEDs instead of lasers as a light source; LED printers are considered a laser class. The MFC-9120CN, white with a dark blue front panel and paper trays, measures 15.7 by 16.9 by 19.3 inches (DRC), which is reasonably compact for a laser class MFP and weighs 50 pounds . Its paper capacity is 250 sheets, and it has a 1-page manual slot feed. An automatic duplexer is missing for printing on both sides of a sheet of paper; the driver provides on-screen instructions for manual duplexing.

The front panel, above the output tray, includes an alphanumeric keypad for faxing, a 2-line monochrome LCD, a 4-channel controller, and buttons for printing, scanning, and fax functions.

The MFC-9120CN connects to a PC via a USB cable, or to a network via Ethernet. We tested it on an Ethernet connection using a computer running Windows Vista. Brother also sells the MFC-9320, which is the same MFP, but with added 802.11 b / g WiFi. The MFC-9010CN is the same as the MFC-9010CN but without the fax features. Brother MFC-9970CDW, adapted to slightly larger desks, has built-in WiFi, automatic duplexing, and a color touch screen, and it prints from and sweeps to USB thumb drives as well.

How to install the driver for BROTHER MFC-9120CN
